Spring is a period of rebirth, and what better way to ring in the new season than with a wellness getaway? If you’re looking for your next destination to explore wellness in all its forms, check out these spots to take the road less traveled by.

  1. Corpus Christi, Texas

First on our list is Corpus Christi, also known as the Gulf Coast Capital. This sea-front destination could be your new favorite wellness getaway for its affordable prices and island-time vibe. A short flight from major cities in Texas, Corpus Christ boasts aesthetic eateries and memorable outdoor experiences.

Check out Paddle Board Yoga at Water Dog Yoga, SUP & Barre to get your downward dog on in the Corpus Christi Bay. Then, grab a latte and loaded waffle at Lucy’s Snackbar, or brunch with a view at Elizabeth’s inside the Art Museum. Be sure to take a stroll (or swim) at Padre Island National Seashore, and you may be lucky enough to witness a sea turtle release. Enjoy an afternoon tea experience at French-inspired Bien Mérité. We also recommend booking Pretty Picnics Corpus Christi at one of the town’s many public beaches to have your mind blown with charcuterie boards galore. End your night with GlowRow, which offers kayaking tours of the Texas Gulf Coast in transparent kayaks with glowing neon lights.

And what’s wellness without the splurge? Corpus Christ is home to the nation’s first Whataburger, and we think it’s worth a taste.

  1. Pagosa Springs, Colorado

Located about five hours from Denver, Pagosa Springs is home to the world’s deepest geothermal aquifer, making it an ideal destination to experience the healing powers of mineral water. The Springs Resort offers 24-hour access to its 25 hot spring pools so you can soak all day long. Visitors can also take advantage of daily wellness activities like aqua yoga, forest bathing, warrior plunges and gratitude ceremonies. The resort features 79 rooms, a full spa and plenty of eateries, making it a flawless basecamp to Pagosa Springs.

This spring, check out The Springs’ Energizing Herbal Renewal treatment, a detoxifying wrap that helps stimulate circulation and lymph flow, purify the body and tone the skin. Herbs and clay are blended with the Mother Spring water to create an active and deep penetrating mask.

When you’re ready to venture into town, Pagosa Street is an adorable downtown strip with coffee shops and outdoor clothing stores. We recommend stopping in Voormi for sustainable outdoor apparel and Root House for the best coffee in southern Colorado. Make sure to head up to Chimney Rock National Monument (but only if your visit is after May 15). The archeological site is home to Puebloan ruins and primitive pathways. For a scenic overlook, drive up Wolf Creek Pass to peek at the bountiful valley beneath you.

  1. Torrey, Utah

Known as the gateway to Capitol Reef National Park, Torrey is the heart of red rock country. Its wellness offerings are still hidden gems for the region, giving it all the more reason to visit if you’re looking for a true mountain escape.

Only three miles from Capitol Reef, it feels like Red Sands Hotel & Spa has it all. This property is freshly renovated,  boasts 60 rooms, has an on-site restaurant, a stargazing deck and, best of all, a fully equipped spa designed to blend into its natural surroundings. It’s best described as a slice of luxury in the desert without the extra fluff. Guests can book the private copper soaking tub, time in the tranquil mediation room, an energy healing session, a yoga class or, of course, a classic massage. After a day exploring outside, Red Sands is a retreat you’ll want to come home to.

Speaking of exploring, book an adventure with adventure travel company Get In The Wild. All the lead guides are Wilderness First Responder certified, and can take anyone on exceptional hiking or canyoneering days in both Capitol Reef and Goblin Valley State Park.

End your day with James Beard Award semifinalist Hell’s Backbone Grill & Farm, located an hour south of Torrey. The nationally recognized farm-to-table eatery shares quality cuisine in a community-forward environment. If you’re lucky, you may get to meet Jen Castle or Blake Spalding, the beloved chef-owners.

If you’re looking for a Midwestern getaway, look no further than Kohler, home to Kohler Waters Spa. Since 1873, this world-class spa has been redefining wellness in all its forms. Perfect for a weekend of unplugging, the renowned plumbing brand uses mineral-rich waters to craft nourishing treatments for the mind, body and soul at this five-star resort.

While the spa brand itself has multiple locations, the headquarters in Kohler, Wisconsin make for a memorable trip. The state is traditionally remembered for its cheese-loving culture and the Green Bay Packers, but the quaint town of Kohler is abundant with nature and deeply loyal to the Kohler brand.

Book a few nights at The American Club Resort Hotel, and enjoy cold pools, warm pools, soaking showers, swimming pools and more at the spa. Self-care is the name of the game here, plus other activities like yoga, golf and cycling round out the experience. There are a multitude of restaurants to choose from, so all guests have to worry about is which treatment they want to try next. The Revive and Renew package is preferred if you want to try out a spa service and yoga class on the lake.

While you’re here, we recommend checking out Sheboygan, a nearby town home to performing arts and rotating exhibits. Also known as a freshwater haven, a visit here features breathtaking views of Lake Michigan with two miles of sandy beaches.
