This New Denver Wellness Club Is Using Robots to Rethink Self-Care

Last Updated: April 22, 2025By

I’ll be honest: when I first heard about a “robot massage,” I pictured cold metal arms and an impersonal experience that couldn’t come close to human touch. But when I visited Sway, Denver, Colorado’s sleek new wellness club on Larimer Square, I learned firsthand how wrong I was.

Sway is the futuristic little sister of Spavia Day Spa — the Colorado-born franchise that made luxury wellness affordable. But while Spavia feels spa-like, Sway is something else entirely: high-tech, ultra-modern and aimed squarely at a younger crowd that wants more than just a moment of pampering. It’s self-care reimagined.

The crown jewel of Sway’s offerings? Aescape, a robotic massage system with AI-powered arms that replicate the seven touch techniques of a human therapist. Think: heated knuckles, forearms, even elbows — but from a machine that learns your preferences over time.

After slipping into the futuristic compression suit (called Aerwear), I laid down on what looked like a massage table from a sci-fi movie. As it scanned my body — capturing over a million data points — I could feel the technology quietly mapping out my tightest muscles. What followed was shockingly intuitive: a rhythmic, deeply satisfying massage that somehow knew where to focus without me saying a word. And unlike human therapists, I could dial the pressure up or down mid-session without any awkwardness.

Does it replace the magic of human touch? Not quite. But it’s consistent, customizable and — for anyone who’s ever hesitated to speak up during a massage — surprisingly comforting.

While Sway’s gadgets are impressive, what stuck with me most was the vibe — unpretentious, forward-thinking and rooted in that classic Colorado ethos: wellness should feel good, do good and be accessible to all.

So yes, I tried a robot massage. And yes, I’ll be back.
