To be honest, the thought of drinking mushroom-flavored coffee sounded unappealing at first. Even with understanding the health benefits, I was afraid to sacrifice my normal cup of joe. The newly launched Black Coffee, containing 2,000mg of functional mushroom extract, forced me to take a step back. Not only does the drink support the immune system, but the flavor was perfectly balanced. With no gums, seed oils, flavors or stevia, it really is a salute to traditional coffee, just with an added boost of nutrition.
Eager to learn more, I delved further into the ingredient list. In the coffee, Earth & Star utilizes their four-mushroom blend, but with the added benefits of L-theanine for enhanced cognitive function and stress reduction. It’s smooth and seriously derails the typical caffeine crash I experience from drinking coffee.
Featured in the mushroom blend are Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Reishi and Chaga. If you’re looking for these ingredients, but in a more exciting format, the lattes are a must-try. The plant-based variations include Matcha, Cacao and Turmeric.
Personally, the turmeric latte was a bold winner. Beyond the mushroom blend, ginger, black pepper, oat milk, cinnamon and sea salt work together as an anti-inflammatory team, magnifying the warm golden light turmeric holds.
