Try It Out : Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt | By Olivia Lyda

As the summer months approach, cold refreshing beverages and treats become essential to beat the blazing sun. But hardly do popsicles, ice cream cones and yogurt bars provide little or even any nutritional value.

Healthier alternatives to traditional unhealthy meals have become popular in recent years. The problem with these healthier sweet snacks is that they lack the “wow” factor with taste and texture. I’ve found throughout my ventures in healthier sweets that satisfying a sweet tooth and conscious caloric intake is easier said than done. That’s where Yasso comes into the picture.

The Colorado-based Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt promises a “better-for-you dessert option” and whole-heartedly delivers. Their frozen Greek yogurt delights are only 100 calories with five grams of protein, so you can feel good about indulging your sweet tooth. With multiple dessert types — from bars to sandwiches to poppables — and flavors galore, there are multiple options to enjoy a cold delicacy.

Out of the copious flavor profiles to savor the sweetness, my roommates and I tried the black raspberry and chocolate chip cookie dough bars. The bars were creamy and smooth, with little bites of chocolate sweetening each mouthful. The berry flavor was delectable, and I was surprised and elated when I checked the nutritional label. My roommates preferred the chocolate chip cookie dough. The bars were gone from our freezer within the week.

My favorite way to enjoy a Yasso frozen dessert is on a sunny day laying out in the sun, or as a late night snack that I don’t have to feel guilty about. My go-to is the coffee poppable bites. Each box comes with six chocolate covered, bite-size frozen snacks to enjoy on the go or to share with friends. The textured chocolate cover makes every bite crunchy and creamy!

Supporting Yasso supports the greater Colorado community. The Game On! Foundation provides resources for a healthy lifestyle to activate wellness within to spread throughout. With the pillars of their image highlighting physical wellness, nutrition and mental health, their mission aligns with the values of many and supports those who lack the resources to stay fit.

“It was 2009 and the ice cream aisle was seriously lacking in great tasting, better-for-you dessert options,” the Yasso website says. “Using the creamy goodness of Greek yogurt, we introduced Yasso, mouthwatering indulgent desserts that taste as good as your ice cream shop favorites, but with nutritional benefits that allow you to enjoy anytime, anywhere.”
