Try It Out : Yogamere | By Lexi Reich

Despite the many challenges faced across the board this year, one blessing has been learning to make my home space a true sanctuary. I did this by allowing my space to be cohesive and welcoming to various wellness practices.

At first, transitioning my yoga and meditation practice from the studio to home was a daunting task. But, I’ve found adding a few key pieces to my space has really made all the difference. This learning experience will leave a lasting effect for years to come, and in large I have Yogamere to thank for the inspiration.

Yogamere™ is on a mission to make wellness beautiful. Founder Amy Ormond wanted to create fitness accessories that flowed with home décor. Our space affects our mood, motivation, creativity and happiness. She set out to make high-quality pieces that compliment light-filled spaces with luxurious textures and soothing colors.

At the beginning of quarantine, like many of us, I took on numerous home projects. The first was to repaint my bedroom from a pale yellow to a clean white shade. After adorning the windowsills with plants and candles, I was ready to tap into the yoga side of things. I donated any unnecessary items in my room to make the space clean and minimalistic with plenty of room to move.

Yogamere’s Medini Meditation Cushion ($72) was the perfect complement to my room. The soft cotton with velvet appliqué is comfortable and lavish. The natural buckwheat filling and square shape provides ample support for longer meditations. Resting the ivory cushion on my window seat, almost like an altar, inspires me every morning to take a few extra moments devoted to the breath.

As a fellow Capricorn, I appreciate Ormond using the strong and confident Capricorn goat in the Yogamere Crest. The Crest represents the balanced strength and vulnerability within all of us, and is intricately designed with graceful cardinals, butterflies and a dragonfly at the top. As the official symbol for her brand, I can feel the thoughtfulness and attention to detail resonate in each of her products.

I also tested out the Bija Cashmere & Silk Eye Pillow ($48) from the Create Your Sanctuary home kit. The natural flaxseed fill is incredibly soothing, and somehow perfectly distributes the weight of the cushion across my eyes. The soft cashmere promotes this eye pillow to be unlike any other product I’ve tested — you can really feel the luxury taking you deeper and deeper into savasana. My favorite way to use the eye pillow is by warming it in the microwave for heated therapy on tired eyes. This stress-reducing ritual has allowed me to shut out the world, just temporarily, so I can reconnect with myself in a safe environment.

The fact that I can create this experience from the comfort of my own home is incredibly empowering, especially during difficult times.
