Try It Out : Jai Mix | By Lexi Reich

Jai Mix is a spunky Ayurvedic snack mix that is starting to pop-up in businesses and grocery stores throughout Colorado. Jai translates to “Victory to the Good!” in Hindi, and every aspect of this product represents just that — pure, whole good.

Based on the Ayurvedic principle of the six tastes of healthy and pleasurable eating, Jai Mix delivers each unique note of bitter, astringent, pungent, sour, salty and sweet with each handful.

Founder Nichole Nurenberg started testing the unique recipes in her own kitchen 10 years ago. Nurenberg is a graduate of the Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga and Ayurveda and has a degree in in integrative physiology with a focus on neurophysiology from the University of Colorado.

Today, Jai Mix is still batched by hand in the local Colorado Rockies, and you can really taste the difference.

Beginning in October 2018, these fast-growing snack mixes are appearing in more and more places in Colorado each month. Find them at Lucky’s Markets (South Boulder, North Boulder, Longmont and Wheatridge), Alfalfa’s Markets (Boulder and Louisville), The Rayback Collective, The Littleton Market and Tadasana Mountain Yoga in Nederland.

The mixes come in three flavors: Original, Toasted Coconut & Ginger and Spicy Toasted Coconut & Ginger; all are vegan, gluten-free, organic and packed with superfoods like turmeric root, curry leaf and coconut oil. They are prebiotic and fermented for easier digestion, making them a perfect snack to munch on — no preparation required. They are batched by hand in the local Colorado Rockies and you can really taste the difference.

The “Original” is my favorite and contains crispy rice flakes, cashews, dry roasted peanuts, Ayurvedic spices, chilies and coconut oil. I’ve brought it to the movies, as an appetizer to split with friends before mealtime, and as a post-yoga class snack to hold me over until lunch. It’s versatile, healthy, easy and made with pure intentions — seriously my go-to snack at the moment!

Jai Mix’s next steps are to implement recyclable bags in production and open an online store this spring, which will be shipping nationwide.

Marketed as $5.99 per 7 oz bag (depending on the retailer), Jai Mix is well-worth it.
