Steve St. Clair incorporated EnerHealth Botanicals in 2005. After being involved in alternative health and nutrition for over three decades, St. Clair took action and formulated a product of his own, Enerfood Superfood Powder, EnerHealth Botanicals’ award-winning first product, 16 years ago.

Since then, EnerHealth Botanicals has created multiple lines of holistic health products that caught YOGA + Life® Magazines’ attention. We sat down with St. Clair to learn more about the brand’s mission.

“The foundation of any journey to wellness begins with proper nutrition, exercise, hydration, managing stress and proper rest. The only variable to which we can directly contribute is nutrition. Enerfood was formulated with the Western lifestyle in mind: poor nutrition, high stress, lack of sleep and most likely not enough exercise. Enerhealth Botanicals added the Organic NutriCafe whole bean coffee infused with extracts of medicinal mushrooms 13 years ago. The mushroom extracts we use are beneficial when used consistently over time and coffee, while having some health benefits as an antioxidant, is a perfect delivery system for the mushrooms since coffee drinkers drink at least one cup, if not more, every day. In essence, you are “micro-dosing” medicinal mushrooms every day!

We added the Organic Cocoa Mojo soon after since not everyone is a coffee drinker. We made it special with not only the mushroom blend, but also with organic coconut palm sugar, a low glycemic sweetener, so you can drink this one in the evening and not get a “sugar rush.” The NutriCafe and Cocoa products were developed way before medicinal mushrooms were popular. Apparently, we were ahead of our time.

Improve Your Health with Botanical Science 

About eight years ago, a company that had been private labeling a select few herbal tincture blends for us decided to go out of business and I acquired the assets of the company and some of their herbal production staff to keep that tradition alive. We had very good reviews, as did the original company, on all of their blends and single herb extractions for noticeable improvements to health.

Over time, we have implemented modern extraction techniques to improve the quality of the tinctures without losing any of the benefits of the herb itself. In fact, we have increased the concentration and extraction efficiencies with these new techniques and all the extracts are still in their “raw” form.

As we developed these techniques, we came upon an ancient method of extraction, Spagyrics, and developed a way to abide by the good manufacturing guidelines outlined by the FDA to produce them efficiently. This method is hands down better for most herbs, including hemp, as it utilizes the micro clusters of mineral salts for better absorption and results.

We use organic inputs in all our extraction processes such as organic cane alcohol, organic herbs, including hemp, as well as organic flavorings when required.

Sourcing our ingredients, whether they are herbs for extraction or nutritional supplements used in our superfood blends, is the most important part of our manufacturing process. One must source the best ingredients to expect a superior end result!

Lasting Results 

About six years ago, we became concerned about food security and after reviewing the existing offerings out there, from MREs to overly processed powdered meals, we thought that going back to the basics, organic basics, was in order. We created a “survival pail” to be used in times of need, i.e., hurricanes, pandemics and natural disasters of all types. The ingredients of this pail were created around the powerful nutritional benefits of Enerfood and also includes 40 days worth of 12 other organic foods vacuum sealed for freshness, which can be stored unopened for 10 to 15 years.

While our herbal products are not “certified” organic, 99 percent of them are organic, and the rest wildcrafted. As I have mentioned, all the other superfoods and food products are always certified organic. We maintain certification through Oregon Tilth, a premier certification agency that has been around for decades. Products from Enerhealth Botanicals are also completely vegan and gluten free!

Over time, our product line has grown to not only provide the foundation for health with the superfoods and organic foods, but has extended well beyond with the herbs that provide increased support for all the systems of the body.
