10 Resolutions to Set for a Mindful New Year | By Cora Gold

Last Updated: December 24, 2022By

Mindful resolutions are about self-growth, so they’re perfect for a new year. Check out these resolutions to find inspiration for your next year of adventure! No matter how you want to spend your time, mindful habits can improve your life.

1. Get More Sleep

Most people would admit that they need more sleep each night. Become more mindful of your body’s need for rest by going to bed 15 minutes earlier than usual.

2. Read Every Day

Reading always teaches you something new. Commit to reading even one page daily for the next year to develop your critical thinking and worldview. You could even read the best books on mindfulness to dive deeper into the helpful habit.

3. Try New Exercises

Instead of setting a vague goal like “work out more,” or an unrealistic goal like “work out every day,” try making a resolution to try a new type of exercise each month. While common exercises like running or weight lifting can be beneficial, they don’t work for everyone. Try exercises like yoga, cycling or swimming, which benefit your physical and mental health in a less intensive way. Listen to your body and find ways to exercise that work for you.

4. Take Weekly Walks

Leisurely walks are excellent opportunities to practice mindfulness. Use this new year’s resolution to focus on breathing and thinking positively while enjoying weekly casual exercise.

5. Learn a New Skill

Your new year’s intention may involve learning a new skill. It’s a form of mindfulness because you’ll pay attention to your dreams and desires. Download free apps or attend free classes at your local library to discover more about your favorite subjects or hobbies.

6. Repeat Positive Affirmations

Transform your anxiety or sadness into positivity by repeating daily affirmations for your new year’s resolution. By saying positive desires or confirmations, you’ll rewire your stream of consciousness to live each day in a more positive frame of mind.

7. Practice Releasing Judgments

Mindfulness also teaches people to let go of negativity in the form of judgment. Release negative thoughts toward yourself and others to create space for positive thoughts and self-growth.

8. Minimize Your Carbon Footprint

You can combine your sustainable values with a mindful new year’s resolution by making a change to minimize your carbon footprint. An effort like swapping plastic water bottles for a reusable one will make you continually mindful of your environmental impact without adding stress to your budget.

9. Replace Burnout With Balance

Become more aware of your mental health and time management by reducing your burnout. You could spend this next year finding more time for relaxation or self-care. Less burnout helps you enjoy life more at work, school, or home.

10. Embrace Consistency Over Perfection

Patience is a foundational part of mindful lifestyles. Change rarely happens overnight, so you could resolve to become proud of consistency instead of perfection. Each step forward is a positive change, no matter how small they seem.

Set New Mindful Resolutions

These are a few mindful resolutions you can decide to start in the new year. They’ll make significant differences in your daily life by improving your mental and physical health. See which ones interest you most to experience your best year yet!
